Re-introducing agriculture in urban areas to facilitate environmentally friendly and sustainable development
Urban and peri-urban agriculture offers a response to a number of major urban and societal issues, such as the role of plants in urban areas, soil restoration, preservation of agricultural land, relocation and reappropriation of our food, sustainability of farming models, and circular economy needs.
This new farming system, supported by a wide range of organisations (local authorities, farmers, residents' groups, associations, etc.), is being deployed in urban areas in a variety of forms, the most striking being:
- Traditional or highly technology-driven urban farms,
- Family or shared gardens with food, educational or social purposes,
- Temporary uses of wasteland in redevelopment operations.
Urban farming is rapidly growing in popularity and is a formidable lever of creativity and innovation for
greener urban development.
The
success of our approach, whether environmental, social or economic, is based on the crosscutting expertise of SCE and our Ateliers UP+ urban design agency in
agriculture and urban development.
Dialogue and
participative collaboration with all stakeholders are also key to success in
designing the best-fit solutions. With this global approach, we work with you at every step of your projects and address all the issues at stake:
- Analysis of agricultural models, sectors, and interactions between players
- Soil and agronomic diagnostics, polluted soils
• Site regeneration and unsealing of soils, restoration of fertile soils
- Resource management, hydraulic management
- Agro-landscape and urban development interface
- Design and works supervision of urban farms
