Developing sustainable cities and regions

Sce combines the cultures of urban planning and landscaping, infrastructure engineering and environment to unlock the potential of projects. Through participative collaboration and the interaction of our main fields of expertise, we provide consulting, design and engineering services to public and private clients.
The merging of the creative talents of the urban and landscape designers of our in-house urban design agency (Ateliers UP+) with the technical expertise of our engineers and the environmental awareness of our environment experts is one of the key elements of the company’s DNA.
Integrating environmental issues from the outset in development projects has been a core principle for Sce for nearly 40 years.

Sce is part of Keran, an independent group (850 staff, € 78 million in annual revenue).

Organisation

The company is led by Yves Gillet (CEO), Denis Pourlier-Cucherat, (Managing Director), and an executive management committee comprising 11 members. Members of management are also involved in the Keran group’s governance to foster cross-company initiatives.

An Agile and Responsive Organisation
To foster close working ties, staff work in small teams organised by specialist areas of expertise, within five main fields: Urban Planning and Landscape (Ateliers UP+), Urban and Transport Infrastructure, Water and Wastewater Infrastructure, Energy and Environment, and International.

Cross-company and group-wide initiatives are also put in place, to enhance synergies and boost the effectiveness of team collaboration, like our business development committee, international development committee, innovation committee and communications committee.

A Strong Local presence for Closeness to our Clients
Since the creation of the company, SCE’s headquarters have always been in Nantes. Over the years and as the business has developed, we have opened eleven local branches across mainland France. These are organised into four regional divisions: Greater Paris and North, West, South-West, and South-East.
Internationally, SCE has built its development on Keran’s international presence.

As a company close to the field, we listen carefully to needs and have excellent knowledge of local stakeholders and situations.

Sustainable development and all-round –not just financial – performance are central to SCE’s corporate strategy. These values have always been part of our DNA.

Our commitments are reflected in our ongoing investment in innovative methods and concrete actions connected with the four main focuses of our CSR approach: deployment of a low-carbon strategy, protection of resources, social inclusion and support, and ethical conduct.

Values

The Group’s values are the bedrock of our business culture and strategy, and give meaning to the everyday actions of our staff.
  • Proximity
We develop strong, long-term relationships with our clients and partners. Proximity, openness and understanding are at the heart of our approach – our focus is on providing contextually appropriate solutions. Thanks to our network of branches, we have a local presence and can work closely with our clients.
  • Audacity
Keeping track of developments in our fields and daring to innovate, contributing to R&D projects, supporting post-doctoral research, and tackling technical challenges are all drivers of our development strategy - and sometimes result in us achieving national firsts, such as Nantes’ Bus Rapid Transit system or the Nantes-Châteaubriant tram-train system. This desire to pioneer new ideas and look beyond established practices is a permanent source of motivation for our staff.
  • Trust
We know that trust is built over time and we gain that of our clients by respecting our word and constantly providing a high quality of service. Our professional objectivity is guaranteed by the group’s financial independence and our expertise recognized by industry certifications: OPQIBI, ISO 9001, OPQU, OPQIBI RGE, AQUAPLUS...
  • Talent
We strive to support personal initiative and professional development by creating a working environment that stimulates team creativity and fosters interaction. Numerous collaborative work systems have been set up to facilitate the sharing of ideas, to lift barriers and drive innovation. The in-company Keran School offers a wide variety of programmes, providing every member of staff with professional development opportunities all throughout their career.
  • Commitment
We feel strongly about being a responsible and committed company, which is why we actively pursue our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals.

Innovation

Allowing freedom to explore, keeping an open mind and cooperating with others. Innovation is one of our performance drivers at SCE. Over the years, we have maintained our spirit of innovation and stayed curiosity by constantly investing in new fields of knowledge and collaborating with networks of experts or competitiveness clusters.
Our ideas lab, Hub, innovation time credits and integration of PhD researchers are just a few of the many ways we foster new ideas and turn ideas into reality.

In early 2020, SCE went a step further with the launch of its first ever Innovation Challenge. This in-company competition is designed to generate new ideas for future services, efficient methods, social or managerial innovation, and the like. The results of the prize winners and their brilliant ideas are announced in December.

Quality and Safety

Our performance management system and our ISO 9001:2015 certification guarantee our constant concern for quality assurance, in terms of service quality, delivery time and cost.

The health and safety of our staff are paramount and we are committed to providing a work environment that ensures their well-being. The commitment and involvement of all enables us to drastically reduce risks of accident and damage to health. Our Uniform Occupational Risks Assessment Document (DUER) allows us to optimize and standardize the risk management process companywide. It provides every member of staff with tools to ensure safe and healthy working practices, whatever the assignment, in order to protect themselves and others.
