Anticipating and protecting
While many activities have historically developed in the vicinity of rivers, the associated flood risks should not be ignored. In recent years, disasters have increased because of soil sealing and climate change effects.
We can mobilise highly specialised expertise in river hydraulics to help you anticipate flood events, accurately identify hazards, prepare action programmes or regulatory documents and design protection systems. SCE has dyke and dam accreditations for technical expertise, design and works supervision of dyke systems and hydraulic infrastructure.
Mitigating risks
Flood protection, however, is not an end in itself and risks must be mitigated, particularly given the increasing intensity and recurrence of floods due to climate change.
Our teams engineer, design and monitor flood risk reduction measures, such as flood storage areas, flood control structures, etc.
To prevent flood risks, our river hydraulics experts are also called in during the design of all our development and infrastructure projects to ensure climate hazards are integrated right from the start.
Guaranteeing the efficiency of measures
SCE has in-house expertise in the legal, institutional and economic aspects connected with the decentralised management of flood risk and aquatic environment protection (GEMAPI). This double expertise ensures local authorities a good balance between the preservation of ecosystems and the construction of protection infrastructure.
